SALAMATOF DUHDELDIHT SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM



JOB DETAILS

Beginning pay: $12.00 P/H


MINIMUM RQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Ages 16-19 years old
Must be unemployed
Be an Alaska resident for 6 months
Valid Alaska ID card or driver's license

Salamatof's Youth Program is hiring kids ages 16-19 years old from all segments of the community who work and learn together by completing projects of lasting benefit throughout the City of Kenai and surrounding areas. Youth are provided an opportunity to increase their self-esteem, learn self-discipline and develop good work ethics. They relate with peers and supervisors and build lasting cultural bridges between youth and diverse social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.  Youth are engaged in fun, exciting work projects designed to develop environmental stewardship and civic responsibility such as building and repairing trails; preserve, maintain and enhance natural resources; rehabilitate and improve cultural, historical and agricultural resources; benefit recreational areas and parks by improving their use and access; beautify and renovate community facilities, including those for the elderly. Youth receive safety, environmental and cultural education. Duties may include litter clean-up, recycling, brush removal, trail marking, building and maintenance of open trails and mapping/survey of existing trail system, archaeological surveys and excavations as well as cultural projects. Work involves physical and manual labor in an outdoor environment under potentially adverse weather conditions and various terrain.

MICKEY LELAND
ENERGY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The U.S. Department of Energy's Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) Program is a 10 week summer research fellowship for undergraduate and graduate students in STEM majors. Participants complete a research project at one of the Department's National Laboratories or DOE Headquarters in support of the Department's mission to minimize the environmental impacts of energy resource recovery and use while working towards net-zero emissions.


As a MLEF participant, you will train under the mentorship of scientists and engineers while completing a mission-focused research project. During the 10 week appointment, you will receive a weekly stipend, and may be eligible for housing and travel allowances. you will also gain sight into how the Department of Energy is working toward an equitable and clean energy future.
